Intriguingly, they identified a significant positive relationship between peripheral PSA-NCAM protein levels and Brodmann area 46 (BA46) volume in healthy controls, and the inverse relationship in this same region of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in people with schizophrenia (i.e., reduced volume in BA46 with increased serum PSA-NCAM)69. Here, NCAM1 is linked to schizophrenia.
