In a hamster model of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), Osorio and colleagues showed that Leishmania donovani infected macrophages displayed enhanced STAT6 and STAT3 signalling in response to the growth factors FGF2 and IGF1, further enhanced by co-stimulation with IL-4 or IL-10 [75]. The gene discussed is FGF2; the disease is visceral leishmaniasis.
