By assessing 32449 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery, Moskowitz et al. [37] found that compared with individuals administered regular transfusion, intraoperative transfusion and the incidence of postoperative complications are significantly reduced in patients tolerating anemia in the perioperative period (threshold of transfusion was 60~70 g/L Hb). This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and anemia (phenotype).
