Among the genes we tested, CNTNAP2 and DISC1 have each been implicated in multiple disorders, including language impairments, ASDs, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and schizophrenia (Fromer et al., 2016; Purcell et al., 2014), suggesting that these neural developmental disorders, cognitive impairments, and psychiatric disorders share common molecular substrates. The gene discussed is DISC1; the disease is attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.
