SREBF1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: In our study, PCSK9 levels were higher in T2DM group compared to IGR and NGT group which are consistent with the Dallas Heart Study [9] and the work from Daiana et al. [21], in which plasma PCSK9 levels were higher in diabetic subjects than in non-diabetic subjects.The mechanism underlying this association is not clear, but it is known that the PCSK9 gene was regulated by sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1c) and hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-alpha (HNF1a) transcription factors, both of which are involved in insulin metabolism [21–23].
