Our review of anti-VEGF (inhibition) and pro-VEGF (stimulation) approaches to neurological diseases as summarized in Table 1 suggests that the clinically accepted VEGF inhibition therapy using bevacizumab and similar classes of monoclonal antibodies that inhibit all or certain isoforms of human VEGF is still lacking, including at its experimental stage, with the exception of ocular conditions such as age-related macular degeneration. Here, VEGFA is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
