We have shown here that relatively quiescent Mist1+ cells can give rise to cancer after exposure to the carcinogen (MNU) or loss of Apc. In the distal stomach, intestinal-type gastric cancer is the more common histologic type, and is typically associated with activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway [10, 27]. This evidence concerns the gene BHLHA15 and cancer.
