This nigrostriatal degeneration of MSA-C can also be visualized in imaging studies; it has been reported that striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) is reduced to various degrees in DAT imaging, such as F-18 fluorinated-N-3-fluoropropyl-2-b-carboxymethoxy-3-b-(4-iodophenyl)nortropane (FP-CIT) positron emission tomography (PET) [4–7]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC6A3 and multiple system atrophy, cerebellar type.
