Overall, these results suggest that increased CXCR6 expression on mononuclear leukocytes and platelet–leukocyte aggregates might constitute a biomarker of systemic inflammation, which seems to be the main driver of CVD development, since CXCR6 is involved in the enhanced leukocyte adhesion to the dysfunctional arterial endothelium of COPD patients. This evidence concerns the gene CXCR6 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
