HOMER1 and schizophrenia: Homer1 polymorphisms have been associated with schizophrenia (Spellmann et al., 2011) and cocaine addiction (Dahl et al., 2005) and Homer1 knock-out mice exhibit a behavioral phenotype resembling psychotic disorders (Szumlinski et al., 2005), as well as Homer2 proteins have been implicated in regulating addiction to cocaine in animal models (Szumlinski et al., 2004).
