FOXP3 and asthma: We therefore adjusted for these factors in our analyses and found that exposure to AAPs is associated with increased DMRs in the promoter region of Foxp3. These results are consistent with prior studies that have demonstrated that the Foxp3 gene is involved in overall immune tolerance [28], and more specifically that Tregs, which are suppressors of immune responses involved in asthma pathogenesis, are impaired in pediatric asthma [35].
