Congruently, genes upregulated in the rim of chronic active MS lesions compared to the rim of inactive MS lesions (comparison I) included the scavenger receptors OLR1 [oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1, also known as lectin-type oxidized LDL receptor 1 (LOX-1)], CD68 (cluster of differentiation 68), MSR1 [macrophage scavenger receptor 1, also known as scavenger receptor AI/II (SR-AI/II)], and CXCL16 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 16) (fold change of 2.8–1.8) (Figure 2). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL16 and myeloid sarcoma.
