The new PPARγ synthetic ligand 3-hydroxy-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid derivative 24 (HP24), an aza-analog of salicylic acid and structurally close to other potent anti-inflammatory pyridine compounds, has been tested in dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in mice, where it showed a significant decrease in colonic myeloperoxidase activity and IL-1β tissue levels, exhibiting its anti-inflammatory activity without cytotoxic activity (22). The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is colitis.
