CASP3 and neoplasm: BD was for the first time found to suppress the tumor growth both in vivo and in vitro through ROS induction which down-regulated the PI3K/Akt signaling and activation of MAPK pathway, and in turn, activated the caspase-/mitochondrion-mediated pathway including loss of MMP, increment of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, release of cytochrome c and activation of caspase-3, 8, 9, finally leading to the cleavage of PARP and cellular apoptosis.
