TAF12 and ischemia: One of the best-described functions of TAF12 is its interaction and recruitment of the growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible alpha protein (Gadd45a) (Schmitz et al., 2009), responsible for active DNA demethylation and known for its important role in neurodevelopment, neuronal injury, and ischemia, where Gadd45a mRNA levels are broadly increased throughout the ischemic cortex (Sultan and Sweatt, 2013) in mice.
