The pathological accumulation of tau is a hallmark in several neurodegenerative disorders collectively termed tauopathies (Kovacs, 2015); a series of diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), Pick's disease, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE; Guo et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
