In the present study we hypothesized that a 6-month treatment with liraglutide in patients with newly diagnosed T2DM causes greater improvement in vascular function, LV myocardial strain, twisting–untwisting, oxidative stress burden as assessed by malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyls (PCs) and NT-proBNP concentrations compared to the standard treatment with metformin. This evidence concerns the gene NPPB and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
