NFKB1 and uveitis: NF-κB is a critical mediator of LPS-induced inflammation.7 LPS activates NF-κB in the mouse lens42 and there are several reports showing elevation of NF-κB in various ocular tissues of animals with uveitis.43 Furthermore, inhibitors of NF-κB have been shown to prevent uveitis.11,22,44 In addition to chelating iron and reducing the amount of ROS, chelating Ca2+ may be an additional mechanism by which ME effects reductions in the amount of NF-κB and cytokine induction in EIU.
