NFKB1 and atherosclerosis: NF‐κB is a family of transcription factors that plays critical roles in inflammation and atherosclerosis, and reports have indicated that it is a target of statins.12, 13 NF‐κB generally exists as a homodimer or heterodimer in the cytosol that is bound to the inhibitor of κB (IκB).14 In response to a wide variety of stimuli, including inflammatory cytokines, IκB is phosphorylated and degraded via the ubiquitin pathway, which is followed by NF‐κB translocation to the nucleus and activation of transcription.
