Knockdown of SphK1 in mice conferred protection against hypoxia-induced pulmonary artery hypertension [49], hyperoxia-induced lung injury in neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia [25] and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis [22] but not in VILI as demonstrated here. The gene discussed is SPHK1; the disease is pulmonary arterial hypertension.
