All these considerations prompted us to perform a pharmacogenetic study to determine whether individuals’ polymorphisms in HMG-CoA reductase and KIF6 genes are independently associated with hypercholesterolemia, other lipid-associated traits and statin response in a sample of unselected individuals enrolled in the Brisighella Heart Study (BHeS). The gene discussed is KIF6; the disease is familial hypercholesterolemia.
