We demonstrate that the presence of tau is not, in itself, inducing stronger regional connectivity by our cross-sectional analysis of the Alzheimer’s disease group, in which we demonstrate that as cortical tau accumulates the overall functional connectivity of cortex falls (Fig. 2D), and this between-subjects effect is strongest in those brain regions with most tau accumulation (Fig. 2F and G). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
