By the time Alzheimer’s disease is sufficiently advanced to cause the symptoms of MCI, tau is generally already present to some degree throughout the neocortex (Markesbery, 2010), and therefore reaching a disease stage at which the number of neighbours more closely approximates the number of infected neighbours, and the connection strength between infected neighbours (here the weighted portion of degree) becomes a strong driver of infectivity. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
