In addition, according to the score values associated to each pathway, it was possible to suppose a sequential involvement for these signalling events in the carcinogenesis of pancreatic cancer: FOXO family and MAPK signalling pathways might intervene before, followed by regulation of nuclear SMAD2/3 signalling, while molecular events mediated by ERBB1 and c-MET might be deregulated later during the development of pancreatic cancer. Here, SMAD2 is linked to familial pancreatic carcinoma.
