At least 3 different strategies to develop a malaria vaccine have been identified as follows: the pre‐erythrocytic stage targeted by a infection‐blocking vaccine, the erythrocytic stage targeted by an antimorbidity vaccine and the sexual stage targeted by a transmission‐blocking vaccine.2 Recently, it has been proposed that an effective vaccine against malaria would be required to target many stages of the parasite life cycle.3 The recently approved malaria vaccine, MosquirixTM, which was previously called RTS,S was derived from the circumsporozoite protein (CSP).
