Among the new molecular target structures that have been evaluated for treatment of HCC are the somatostatin receptor (SSTR) subtypes SSTR1 – SSTR5, which in immunohistochemical studies have been shown to be present in a substantial fraction of tumor samples, although quite divergent expression intensities and receptor expression profiles have been described [12–17]. This evidence concerns the gene SSTR5 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
