Among animal models of high-risk HPV infections, we show here that the Rhesus papillomavirus (Macaca mulatta Papillomavirus type 1, MmPV1, also known as RhPV1) E6 protein associates with E6AP, targets p53 for degradation (Fig 7 and S7 Fig), and causes genital squamous cell cancers, making this an excellent animal model of high-risk HPV disease [76].
