ADAM17 and Alzheimer disease: In the case of mIL-6R, the enzymatic cleavage of mIL-6R occurs most notably by the action of either or both ADAM10 and ADAM17 [75, 76], although the assigned level of importance of ADAM10 in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease [77], appears to make ADAM17 more crucial to its role in inflammation associated with autoimmunity [72].
