Recently, Grimm et al. (2016a) performed an exhaustive study on the effects of sex steroids on mitochondrial function in two cellular models of AD, one mimicked Aβ accumulation (neuroblastoma cells transfected with the human amyloid precursor protein APP) and the other mimicked tau hyperphosphorylation (neuroblastoma cells transfected with mutant tau P301L). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
