While the recommended dietary protein intake is 0.6–0.8 g/kg ideal body weight/day in pre-dialysis patients with stage 3–5 CKD, the minimum protein requirement for end-stage renal disease patients on maintenance dialysis is suggested to be 1.2 g/kg ideal body weight/day due to additional protein catabolic stimuli including the inflammatory stimulus associated with the dialysis procedure and the loss of amino acids and albumin into the dialysate1. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and chronic kidney disease.
