The Bahamas has the highest known prevalence of BRCA mutations among breast cancer patients of any country; 23% of women with breast cancer in the Bahamas were found to carry one of seven founder mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene (Akbari et al., 2014; Trottier et al., 2016). The gene discussed is BRCA2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
