Tf supplementation protects against iron toxicity in glial cells,32 and reverses some age-related declines in the weight of testis, thymus and adrenal gland.33 Tf supplementation has been shown to increase myelin deposition34 and increase the expression of myelin proteins35 that may be of benefit to multiple sclerosis, which is complicated by myelin deterioration with iron accumulation.36 Tf has also been explored in the treatment of various cancers.37–43 A cautious approach for using Tf as a therapeutic is advised in light of the results presented in the current study. This evidence concerns the gene TF and cancer.
