H19 and cancer: For example, the 11p15 chromosomal region contains a contiguous multigene imprinting cluster including H19, a long non-coding RNA gene that is only expressed by the hypomethylated maternal allele, while the hypermethylated paternal allele is silenced.37 Loss of imprinting in 11p15 is associated with childhood growth disorders and cancer, such as Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome and Wilms tumor,38 as well as adult cancers.39
