Transport of Cl(−) and HCO(3)(−) through cAMP-activated channels will have a major role in male infertility for processes such as capacitation.34 The CFTR gene, the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), is a cAMP-activated Cl(−) and HCO(3)(−) conducting channel and has been investigated to study the effect of mutations in this gene and its role in male infertility.
