A long-term study (median follow-up 8 years) indicated that good compliance to cysteamine therapy orally is effective in preventing endocrine disorders in patients with cystinosis, with ILC levels of <2 nmol half-cystine/mg protein being associated with lower incidences of short stature, pubertal delay, hypothyroidism, and diabetes than those with higher ILC levels [47]. Here, CCL27 is linked to cystinosis.
