In normal epithelial cells, β-catenin binds to the cytoplasmic tail of E-cadherin and is sequestered on the membrane, therefore loss of E-cadherin expression results in the release of β-catenin into the cytoplasm leading to enhanced tumor progression (Heuberger and Birchmeier, 2010; Costa et al., 2015). The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is neoplasm.
