CAV1 and colorectal adenocarcinoma: Caco-2 cells (epithelial colorectal adenocarcinoma cells) are devoid of Cav-1 and are not susceptible to Salmonella. However, these cells can acquire an M-like phenotype (M-cells are present in the gastrointestinal tract and allow for transport of microbes across the epithelia), expressing high levels of Cav-1, when cocultured with Raji B cells.
