We observed a strong dysregulation of several of these proteins- ATP2A1 (SERCA pump), sarcolipin (SLN, which inhibits SERCA) and calsequestrin [CASQ, restrains Ca2+ to the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR)], in ALS and DMD (Wang et al., 2012; Mukund and Subramaniam, 2015). The gene discussed is CASQ1; the disease is Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
