Using a six biomarker panel consisting of macrophage inhibitory factor (MIF), prolactin, CA125, leptin, osteopontin and insulin like growth factor 2 (IGF2), Visintin et al reported an improved differentiation between disease free and ovarian cancer patients compared to CA125 alone in patients without a family history of OC (sensitivity of 95.3% vs 75%; specificity of 99.4% vs 95%) [18]. This evidence concerns the gene MIF and ovarian carcinoma.
