AVP and Hypernatremia: This result may be associated with injury to anterior hypothalamic nuclei, predominantly in paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei, caused by perivascular hemorrhage and edema.[16,22] Doshi et al. described that IVH extended into the hypothalamic region in human brain biopsy cases.[22] Damaged hypothalamus leads to hypernatremia due to impaired secretion of arginine-vasopressin (AVP).[23] Reduction of AVP after SAH results in increased serum sodium level.[16,23]
