TASTPM mice carry a double mutation on the APP and one single mutation on the presenilin-1 gene resulting in severe accumulation of amyloid plaques and cognitive impairment by the sixth month of age.16,17 Using fixed brain histological sections obtained from TASTPM mice, we analysed the Aβ deposits within the hippocampus, a brain area that is involved in memory encoding and is severely affected in AD. Here, APP is linked to Alzheimer disease.
