Two recent groundbreaking studies highlight the critical role played in estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer metastasis by the enzyme ST6GalNAc2 controlling the expression of TF-antigen [12], and by C2GnT2 and ST6GalNAc4 glycosyltransferase activity in lung adenocarcinoma controlling metastatic cell attachment to galectin-3-presenting cells in the metastatic niche via regulation of TF antigen expression [13]. The gene discussed is TF; the disease is lung adenocarcinoma.
