As illustrated in Figure 5, WD-sedentary mice had significantly higher protein levels of TNF-α (a key pro-inflammatory cytokine that contributes to myocardial fibrosis) and lower protein levels of IL-10 (an anti-inflammatory cytokine that is involved in the protection against WD-induced inflammation) (Grant et al., 2014) than ND-sedentary mice.
