Tumor BRCA1 and BRCA2 (tBRCA1/2) testing in ovarian cancer is of increasing clinical importance as ovarian cancer patients with both germline and somatic (only found in neoplastic cells) pathogenic BRCA1/2 variants have been shown to benefit from treatment with poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors (Ledermann et al., 2014; Lheureux et al., 2017). The gene discussed is BRCA2; the disease is ovarian cancer.
