The dysregulation of thelimbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (LHPA) axis with elevated levels ofcorticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) has been consistently reported in traumatizedindividuals.27,70 Adults with PTSD, maltreatedchildren with symptoms of mood and anxiety disorders, children with PTSD secondaryto maltreatment, and infant primate mothers all show this dysregulation.27,70-72. This evidence concerns the gene CRH and post-traumatic stress disorder.
