MAPT and Alzheimer disease: In 2007, Dubois et al. proposed criteria for the clinical diagnosis of AD for thepurpose of research, utilizing supplementary diagnostic methods: MR, PET or spinalfluid biomarkers (Aβ-42 and tau), aimed at achieving greater specificity andearlier diagnosis.7 These authorssuggested a new definition for the disease, not restricted only to the dementiaphase, but allowing for its detection in pre-clinical stages based on the presenceof alterations on MR, PET and biomarker evaluations indicating potentialphysiopathological changes of AD in asymptomatic patients.8
