The Hi-Myc mouse model expresses human c-MYC in the prostate and recapitulates human prostate cancer on a genetic level, since cancers harbor loss of the tumor suppressor Nkx3.1 and upregulation of the serine/threonine kinase Pim-1, which are also prevalent in human prostate cancer [16]. The gene discussed is NKX3-1; the disease is prostate cancer.
