Interestingly, PD‐L2 accomplished this feat by improving the Th1 CD4+ T‐cell response, which led to enhanced parasite clearance; and via a mechanism that increased immunomodulation, which was characterized by increased regulatory T cells.143 The therapeutic potential of this ligand was explored, and it was shown that soluble PD‐L2 improves survival from lethal malaria.143 It is yet to be determined whether repeated exposure is associated with increased levels of PD‐L2, or whether immune adults also have increased levels of PD‐L2. Here, PDCD1LG2 is linked to malaria.
