MAOB and Parkinson disease: Besides these experimental models, current clinical trials involving patients with PD, strongly suggest minocycline, an inhibitor of microglial reactivity (Du et al. 2001; Faust et al. 2009; Schildknecht et al. 2011; Tikka et al. 2001; Wu et al. 2002), as a promising agent for the protection of nigrostriatal DA neurons when used in combination with other therapies such as antioxidants or MAO-B inhibitors (Galpern and Cudkowicz 2007; Matthews et al. 1999; NINDS NET-PD Investigators 2006, 2008; Shults et al. 1997, 1999, 2002; Shults 2003, 2004; Yang et al. 2009).
