Accumulated evidence has shown that treatment with atypical APDs clozapine and olanzapine decreases plasma adiponectin levels associated with weight gain, high fasting glucose, hypertriglyceridemia, insulin resistance induced by these drugs (Hanssens et al., 2008; Bai et al., 2009; Wampers et al., 2012; Klemettila et al., 2014), although it should be noted that some atypical APDs (e.g., risperidone) did not affect adiponectin levels (Murashita et al., 2007; Wampers et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and hypertriglyceridemia.
