For prediction of bacteremia in adult patients suspected with sepsis admitted to the emergency department at Skaraborg Hospital, Sweden, elevated procalcitonin (AUC = 0.74; 95% CI [0.70–0.78]) performs as good as the composite four biomarkers (procalcitonin, lactate, C-reactive protein and neutrophil and lymphocyte count (NLCR)) (AUC = 0.78; 95% CI [0.74–0.81]) (P = 0.06) (Ljungstrom et al., 2017).
